2006 USCAA National Soccer Championships: First Round Recaps

Play began Thursday in the 2006 USCAA Men's and Women's National Soccer Championships. The matches are being hosted by Rochester College (Rochester Hills, MI).

The following are capsule summaries of first-round play:

Women

  • Robert Morris-Springfield (IL) 4, Robert Morris-Lake County 0
    Michelle Oldani scored 2 goals to lead the 3rd-seeded Springfield campus to the quarterfinal win over the 6th-seeded Lake County campus. Kelsey Lucas and Rachel Simmons added goals while assists came from Brittany Kink (2), Ashley Dawson, and Mallory Hamlin. Robert Morris-Springfield advances play #2 seed Southern Virginia University at 2:00 pm Friday at Rochester Adams High School.
  • Rochester College 2, Warren Wilson College (NC) 1
    The 5th-seeded Lady Warriors scored the first two goals and held on to defeat the 4th-seeded Owls in today’s other quarterfinal of the day. Krystyn Freeman and Sarah Kirn scored for Rochester College. Amy Witt scored the lone goal for Warren Wilson. Rochester College will now play #1 seed New Hampshire Technical Institute at 2:00 pm Friday at Rochester High School. Warren Wilson will play Robert Morris-Lake County for 5th place at Noon Friday at Rochester High School.

Men

  • Rochester College 2, Unity College (ME) 0
    Adrian Gonzalez scored both goals to lead the 4th-seeeded Warriors in this semifinal game over the 1st-seeded Rams. Calvin Marshall added an assist.
  • Robert Morris-Lake County (IL) 3, Presentation College (SD) 0
    Silvio Mejia, Lorenza Stephens, and Nelson DelGado each scored for the 2nd-seeded Eagles in this semifinal game over the 3rd-seeded Saints. José Gavilanes also added an assist. Robert Morris-Lake County advances to the championship game at Noon Saturday at Stoney Creek High School. They will face host Rochester College. Presentation will play Unity College for 3rd place at 10 am Saturday at Borden Park.
