Bayport Credit Union Named Presenting Sponsor of the ‘09 USCAA Baseball National Championships

Newport News, VA - The Peninsula Pilots and The Apprentice School announced on Wednesday that BayPort Credit Union (formerly Newport News Shipbuilding Employees' Credit Union) will continue its support of the USCAA Baseball National Championships.  Bayport Credit Union has been named the presenting sponsor of the 2009 USCAA Baseball National Championships, the second consecutive year of top level support for the tournament.

The USCAA, a national collegiate athletic organization for America's small colleges, will host its 2009 Baseball National Championship tournament May 11-14 in Hampton, Virginia at historic War Memorial Stadium.  The tournament will feature eight of the top USCAA small college teams from around the nation.  Last year's participants included teams from Virginia, Maryland, Maine, Vermont, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New York.  Columbia Union College enter the tournament as defending National Champions, after knocking off former champ and host, Apprentice School 8-1 in the title game.

War Memorial Stadium has a rich history and in 2008 the stadium was renovated, with a brand new sound system and Armitron video scoreboard.  Plans for the 2009 Championship are to incorporate the scoreboard's technology to perform technological services never before witnessed at a USCAA Baseball National Championship.  Features will include player photos, sponsor commercials and advertisements, and a host of other features.  USCAA Commissioner, Bill Casto states, "The USCAA is very fortunate to have support from a company with caring individuals such as those at Bayport Credit Union.  With their backing and the support of the great city of Hampton and the Peninsula Pilots, this tournament is sure to be first class."

Tickets and passes for the Championships go on sale soon.  The tournament will kick off on Monday, May 11^th with a Home Run Derby and banquet/awards celebration for the teams, where All-American and National All-Academic teams will be announced.  Tournament play will begin the following morning.
