Saint Mary of the Woods wins 2008 USCAA Softball National Championship
Following a lengthy rain delay on Saturday night and with no possibility of playing on Sunday or Monday, Saint Mary of the Woods was declared the 2008 USCAA National Champions.
Saint Mary of the Woods was 5-0 at that point in the tournament and had defeated Robert Morris-Springfield 2-1 in the winners bracket final to be in the position of having to win one out of a possible two games for the championship.
A line of strong storms hit the Decatur area toward the end of the third-place game between Robert Morris-Springfield and Spalding University to the point that the game was stopped after five innings and Robert Morris-Springfield was declared that winner as they were up 8-2 at that point.
The consolation championship game between Briarcliffe and Penn State Beaver was declared a no contest due to injuries. Both teams share fifth place.
