Tournament MVP Thomas Butler earned his second win of the tournament with a complete game performance as Briarcliffe College repeated as USCAA National Champions with a 6-2 win over Southern Virginia on a misty, foggy Tuesday night at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.
Butler retired 24 batters in a row at one point in the game limited a powerhouse Southern Virginia lineup to four hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Joseph Russo, Kevin Licul and Chris Ahearn had two hits apiece for Briarcliffe who became the first team in at least eight years to come out of the losers bracket and win three games on the final day of the tournament.

Thomas Butler was 3-for-4 while five other Bulldogs had two hits apiece as second-seeded Briarcliffe College forced an if necessary game with an 11-9 win over top-seeded Southern Virginia.
The Bulldogs erupted for six runs in the sixth inning to take an 11-0 lead before Southern Virginia answered with four runs in the sixth and five in the eighth before Kurt Stettner held them at bay in the ninth to close the game.
Andrew Snider was 4-for-5 for SVU, while Tyler Cox and Josh Linn had a pair of hits and drove in two runs.

Joe Russo smashed a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift second-seeded Briarcliffe to the championship game with a 10-0 win over fifth-seeded Penn State Greater Allegheny on Wednesday morning.
The first three innings went fairly quickly as Briarcliffe broke through with six runs in its half of the fourth inning. In the fifth, Thomas Butler started with a single followed by a Solomeno single and Sam Braverman being hit by a pitch before Russo took a 1-2 pitch over the wall in right field.
Russo and Joe Solomeno had a pair of hits apiece to lead a nine-hit attack for the Bulldogs. Chris Brezinski earned the win with a four-hit shutout and struck out six in five innings of work.
Briarcliffe now faces Southern Virginia and must beat them twice to repeat at USCAA National Champions.

Vin Aprano threw a five-hit shutout for second-seeded Briarcliffe College as they eliminated fourth-seeded Spalding University 2-0 on Tuesday in the USCAA Baseball National Championships at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.
The Bulldogs scored a run in the fourth as with one out Kevin Licul singled and took second on a throwing error. He advanced to third on a fielders choice and scored on a throwing error.
They added a run in the fifth as Chris Ahearn’s sacrifice fly scored Dave Darcy who reached on a throwing error to start the inning.
Briarcliffe advances to face the winner of Penn State Greater Allegheny-Robert Morris Springfield at 11 am on Wednesday.

Tim Connelly threw a no-hitter on Tuesday evening to advance Penn State Greater Allegheny to the third-place game with a 7-0 win over Robert Morris Springfield.
Penn State Greater Allegheny got all the scoring they needed in the first inning as Scott Dierdorf blasted a two-run home run to right field. In the second Mike Visloski doubled in a pair of runs to highlight a three-run inning to put them ahead 5-0.
Connelly kept the Eagles at bay allowing only a pair of runners to reach on errors in the first and third innings in the no-hit effort. He struck out five in the game.
Penn State Greater Allegheny advances to face Briarcliffe for third place at 11 am on Wednesday.

Brandon Alexander took an 0-2 pitch over the right field wall for a walk-off grand slam as Southern Virginia defeated Rochester College 7-4 in the finish of a game suspended from Saturday night
In the top of the tenth, Rochester scored a run off a sacrifice fly from Steve Bedsole to score Nathan Billings who started the game with a walk.
Southern Virginia responded in their half of the tenth on a single from Andrew Snider and a walk to Josh Linn. Trager Hintze beat out an infield single to load the bases prior to Alexander's blast down the right field line.
Five Knights had a hit apiece as Kody Parkinson earned the win with his inning of work in the tenth. Darrell Brown threw the nine innings on Saturday night striking out nine.
Aaron Diselrath was 2-for-5 with a run scored for Rochester who will face Spalding in an elimination game around 12:30 pm.

A two-run sixth inning for Southern Virginia University brought the Knights to a 3-2 victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny in the winners bracket semifinals at the 2011 USCAA Baseball National Championships on Monday.
The Nittany Lions took a 2-0 lead as Ted Fricke doubled in Mike Visloski who started the third inning with a walk. Robbie Shartle then doubled to right center to score Fricke to give the Nittany Lions a 2-0 lead.
In the fifth, the Knights cut the deficit in half as Mitch Stevenson doubled to right center and scored on a double from Mitch Mantle.
SVU scored in the sixth as Brandon Alexander singled in Adrian Snider to tie the game. The second run scored on an errant throw to get Alexander at second which allowed Brandon Bushnell to score. Kody Parkinson earned the win throwing three innings of three-hit relief for SVU who will take on the winner of Apprentice School-Briarcliffe on Tuesday.
Fricke, Dan Laird and Nathan Raffle had a pair of hits each for Penn State Greater Allegheny who will now face the winner of Selma-Robert Morris Springfield on Tuesday.

Chris Sekardi went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI and Corban Govaia went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs as Robert Morris Springfield eliminated Selma University 12-1 on Monday afternoon at the 2011 USCAA National Championships – Small College World Series.
The Eagles scored a pair of runs in the first inning on a two-run home run from Pete Dayton. After giving up a run in the second, Robert Morris put up a five-spot in the fourth and fifth innings to end the game via the 10-run rule.
Joshua Ramirez earned the win for Robert Morris Springfield with a three-hit, three strikeout performance. The Eagles will face Penn State Greater Allegheny no later than 1:30 pm on Tuesday. The game may move up on Tuesday depending on the weather forecast.

Andrew Yonta and Chris Perry had two-run hits to lead the third-seeded Apprentice School to a 6-2 victory over second-seeded Briarcliffe College in the 2011 USCAA National Championships on Monday.
Chad Gurganus threw 5.2 innings to earn the win for Apprentice School allowing six hits and striking out three. Coire Barnitz closed the game throwing the last 1.1 innings allowing a hit and a strikeout. Five Builders had a hit each as they were outhit 7-5.
Wiener and Joseph Solomeno had two hits each to lead Briarcliffe. Ireland took the loss with a complete game allowing five hits and striking out six.

Tashland Robinson was 2-for-2 and scored a pair of runs as Selma University scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Bulldogs eliminated Central Maine Community College 8-6 on Sunday at the 2011 USCAA Baseball National Championships – Small College World Series.
Selma took advantage of a pair of errors in the sixth inning by CMCC to score three runs. They scored a run in the second and third before taking a 4-1 lead with sacrifice flies from Robinson and Cordero Lindsey.
CMCC was paced by Dartanyan Bourget who drove in three runs going 1-for-3. The Mustangs took a 6-4 lead with a five-run top of the fifth highlighted by a two-run single from Bourget.

Kyle Barbee was 2-for-3 with three RBI while Bryan Clemmons and Wes Loop drove in a pair apiece as Spalding defeated Southern Maine CC 10-0 in game seven of the 2011 USCAA Baseball National Championships – Small College World Series at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.
The Golden Eagles broke the game open scoring seven runs in the second inning highlighted by a two-run single from Clemmons . They ended the game scoring three runs in the sixth inning as Loop’s two-run triple brought the game to 9-0 and he scored on Barbee’s single to left field which ended the game due to the 10-run rule.
Barrett Dugger earned
the win for the Golden Eagles with a two-hit shutout and striking
out eight. Spalding will play on Monday at
a time to be determined.

The 2011 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Small College World Series began today. Jason Del Toro, Tyler Novy, and Corbon Govaia combined for six hits, as the Eagles of Robert Morris Springfield defeated tournament co-host Central Maine Community College 10-0 early Saturday morning. The game ended in the bottom of the 6th, following an outbreak of hits by RMU. Niko Boeker earned the win for the Eagles, pitching all 6 innings and allowing only 3 hits.
#8 Rochester College - 9,

The Rochester College bats exploded early and often, as the Warriors defeated the Seawolves of Southern Maine CC, 9-0. After scoring two runs in the first inning, they busted the game open in the 2nd inning with a lead off double from catcher, Jeff Martinez. That was followed by a single from Ryan Shipka, and Jonathon Koshewitz reaching on a hit batsman to load the bases. Lead-off hitter Nathan Billings then drilled a double to left centerfield, scoring all three runners. The Warriors would go on to score two more runs in the inning, and added two more in the bottom of the fourth to cruise to the next winner's round, where they will play the #1 seeded Southern Virginia Knights later today.

In dramatic fashion, Chris McCabe singled to right field with one out in the bottom of the ninth to score Chris Ahearn with the winning run as Briarcliffe College defeated Robert Morris Springfield 2-1 in the third game of the 2011 USCAA Baseball Small College World Series at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.
Robert Morris took an early 1-0 lead on a single by Jason Del Toro to score Corbin Gouviea who earlier walked. The Bulldogs tied the game in the fourth on a passed ball which plated Joseph Russo.

Sophomore Ethan Halberg threw a complete game two-hitter as the third-seeded Apprentice School defeated sixth-seeded Selma University 3-0 in the fourth game of the USCAA Baseball National Championships at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.
The Builders scored a pair of runs in the first inning as Josh Tuck reached on an error and scored as Chris Aldridge singled to right field. Ryan Wagner followed with a double to left and Andrew Yonta hit into a force out which plated Aldridge for a 2-0 lead.
In the third, the Builders scored again as Aldridge beat out an infield single and advanced as Wagner was hit by a pitch. Yonta drew a walk to load the bases and Corey Gallaway followed with a sacrifice fly to score Aldridge for a 3-0 lead.

Firstbaseman Adam Wehr of Penn State Greater Allegheny was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI as the #5 seeded Penn State Greater Allegheny defeated Spalding University 4-3 on Saturday evening. After tying the ballgame at 1 apiece in the 5th inning, PSU GA broke it open in the top of the 6th. With two outs, Mike Visloski began the rally with a single up the middle. That was followed by two consecutive walks to Ted Fricke and USCAA All-American Scott Dierdorf. Wehr was up next, and blasted a triple into right centerfield, driving in 3 runs and giving Allegheny the lead.
Spalding made a run at tying the game on a rally in the bottom of the 7th inning. After a Bryan Clemmons single, Steve Shanz hit another single to right field. Visloski, the PSU GA rightfielder attempted to throw out an advancing Clemmons at 3rd. During the throw, Shanz attempted to make it to second. After an errant throw, Clemmons scored and Shanz made his way to 3rd. Visloski got a second shot and threw out the runner at 3rd for the second out of the inning. The next Spalding batter, Zane Wheatley walked and was pinch ran for by Anthony Fulks. Fulks attempted to steal second and was thrown out by PSU GA catcher Bill Hodgetts to end the game.
Spalding now plays on Sunday morning at 8:30am vs. co-host Central Maine CC. PSU GA will not play again until Monday at a time TBD.
9pm game suspended by rain
Southern Virginia and Rochester were suspended in the top of the 10th inning due to rain late Saturday night. This game will resume on Monday.
