Daemen College Wins the 2012-2013 USCAA Director's Cup

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Daemen College Wildcats have been named as the 2012-2013 USCAA Director’s Cup Champion. With four USCAA National Championships on the season the Wildcats finished the year with 658 total points. Last year’s Director’s Cup winner, Lindenwood-Belleville, finished second with 573 points. Rochester College ended the year with 374.5 points and a third place finish.

Daemen College jumped out on top during the fall season with three USCAA National Championships, Men’s Golf, Women’s Soccer, and Volleyball. Daemen extended their lead in the winter by adding a Women’s Division I Basketball National Championship to complete their championship total on the season. The Wildcats also earned a second-place finish in Men’s Division I Basketball, a sixth-place finish in Women’s Cross Country, and a ninth-place finish in Men’s Cross Country.

The Lindenwood-Belleville Lynx, on the strength of their first USCAA Softball National Championship, finished the season just 21 points off their winning pace from 2011-2012. They Lynx recorded a second-place finish in Men’s Golf and Women’s Division I basketball, as well as a third-place finish in Men’s Cross Country, fifth-place finish in Men’s Division I Basketball and Baseball, and a tenth-place finish in Women’s Cross Country.

The highlight of the year for Rochester College was winning its fifth USCAA Division I Basketball National Championship. Rochester also had a third-place finish in Volleyball and Women’s Division I Basketball, and a fifth-place finish in Men’s Golf to round out their season. Rounding out the top five were NHTI (349.5 points) and Southern Virginia University (342.5 points).

Daemen College was awarded the Director’s Cup by Executive Director Bill Casto during the opening session of the 2013 USCAA National Convention.  Assistant Athletic Director and Cross County/Track coach Jessica Gorski received the award on the Wildcats’ behalf.

Director’s Cup points are awarded for number of sport offerings and are also based on results from USCAA National Championship events. The final top 20 standings are attached below.
